Notes on the Australian/NZ cruise season

FAB Advisory re Cruises Ex Australian and NZ Ports.

Australian cruise season runs from Oct to Apr.

Cruise ships are like Migratory birds - they follow the sun and fly north for our winter. Re positioning cruises are longer one way voyages and used to offer great discounts, until people discovered them, (drat that) but they are still often cheaper. In Oct you will find great voyages back to from Asia and The USA via Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. In April they are repeated in the reverse direction.

There are a few odd ships that remain in the Australian fleet over summer, and I say odd, as they tend to all be old clapped old ships. As as with aircraft you don't want to travel on a 20/25 year old model. Rule of thumb in cruising the newest ships are always the best to ensure the most up to-date style and comfort. Mid age ships 10-15 years 'can' be OK, provided that they have a big refit every 3/4 years. Any longer than that you should avoid.

The Aust/NZ cruise season runs from Oct to April. This is when the world fleet returns.

The best interline rates virtually only drop 90-30 days out. Saying that on lines like Royal Caribbean we can often sell interline at 25% for cruises years

The Australian cruise market is still immature although that is changing. Years ago they couldn't fill ships over Christmas and you could pick these up for sub $1000. Now that Aussies have discovered cruising they almost always sell out. So if you are looking at the biggest discounts for Christmas cruises, they will be limited and we advise booking in advance.

The biggest discounts will be OCT/NOV and FEB/MAR. If you must travel in DEC/JAN try to travel either end, although Australia Day will see ships fill up.

If you want to cruise in our region between April and Oct the only real option is Tahiti which is Awesome! Normally $10K per person USD. We have loads of cruises starting at $1400 for a ocean view and $2100 for balconies per person, tax is $149, INCLUSIVE of tips and open bar!

Please note: We can not sell P&O which has a bad name (although some say it is improving). Also we can't sell the Carnival and Princess ships based here year round, (see notes above), but we can sell those from those lines in the world fleet, (their good ones).
